Playwright is an open-source library for automating end-to-end (E2E) testing and validating web applications, and it has replaced Nightwatch in Drupal core for running JavaScript tests. It is a highly versatile tool that can also be used for scripts that drive a browser, as well as for AI-related tasks.
Playwright offers assertions, automatic waiting for elements in the DOM, retries, a solid API for locating elements on the page, parallel execution and a modern design. It can control the most widely used browsers (Chromium, Firefox and WebKit engines), and it provides a CLI that can be operated by an LLM and an MCP server for AI agents.
The talk aims to be an introduction to Playwright and its features, its use within Drupal, and other things that can be done with it.
