Digital Strategy & Transformation
We diagnose where your digital platform, team, or processes are limiting your organisation. Designing a clear, actionable path forward.
Senior, technology-agnostic digital strategy and transformation consulting for organisations that need a partner to diagnose, plan and lead a complex digital initiative, not just execute a task.
What is digital strategy consulting?
Digital strategy consulting is the practice of aligning an organisation's technology, processes and user experience with its business goals, delivered by a senior partner who can diagnose, plan and lead delivery across platforms and disciplines.
The distinction matters in practice. Strategy sets the direction and the roadmap, while digital transformation is the multi-year programme of change that executes it. We do both.
We take a technology-agnostic stance from the outset. As a digital strategy agency and digital transformation consultancy, our value is in expertise and judgement rather than in any single product we are trying to sell.
We work with mid-to-large European organisations running mission-critical websites, intranets and digital platforms.
When organisations call us
- Legacy or end-of-support platforms. Your Drupal 7 or Drupal 9 platform is out of support and the upgrade path is unclear, blocking everything downstream.
- Technology that doesn't move the business. You have invested in a platform that doesn't move the business forward: features have stalled, costs are rising, and there is no roadmap.
- A vendor who stayed in their lane. You hired a supplier who executed the brief while the project failed around them, and no one owned the bigger picture.
- Compliance and audit pressure. You face GDPR, WCAG, NIS2 or ENS audit deadlines and your current platform or process is not ready.
- No senior technical leadership in-house. You have no CTO or technical director, and your delivery team needs independent senior governance to make the right calls.

Digital strategy and roadmapping

- Web strategy consulting that ties every technical decision to a measurable business outcome.
- Actionable transformation roadmaps with sequencing, dependencies and budget bands, not a slide deck.
UX/UI strategy and audit
- Data-driven, accessible UX/UI design systems built for high-conversion enterprise interfaces.

Project management and delivery
- Technical direction, agile roadmapping and delivery governance for complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
- We manage the complexity of scope, vendors and risk so your team can focus on the business.
Architecture and technology selectio
- We choose the right tool for each project, never the one we want to sell.
- For complex content platforms we usually recommend Drupal, our deepest specialism. For real-time products and modern frontends we work with Node.js, Next.js and Vue.
- We build headless and decoupled architectures (headless CMS, decoupled frontends) when the project demands it, while strategy, UX and governance stay platform-agnostic from day one.
Tech Leadership as a Service
- Technical governance as a service: an independent senior technical voice without hiring a full-time CTO.
- Architecture oversight, vendor management, escalation ownership and roadmap stewardship.
- Built for organisations with delivery capacity but a gap at the senior technical-decision layer.
Digital sovereignty and open source
- Exit vendor lock-in with open-source foundations so you control your code, data and infrastructure.
- Open-source DNA: Drupal Silver Certified Partner, 100+ contributed modules, among the top 25 Drupal companies worldwide.
The Metadrop difference
We earn the strategic role
- Most long-term clients did not hire us as strategists. They hired us to build or fix a platform, then asked us to lead architecture, PIM integrations, CDN strategy and the whole digital roadmap because they trusted our judgement.
- That earned strategic role is what we do best, and it is why we answer to the business rather than just the brief.
Independent technical governance, not vendor lock-in
- A strategic expert partner who tells you what you need to hear.
- We give you honest technical risk assessment in language non-technical stakeholders can act on.

Frequently asked questions
What is digital strategy consulting, and how is it different from digital transformation?
Digital strategy consulting sets the direction and the roadmap: it aligns your technology, processes and user experience with your business goals. Digital transformation is the programme that executes that roadmap, often over several years, turning the plan into delivered platforms, integrations and ways of working. A digital consultancy diagnoses where you are, defines where you should go, and then leads the change. We do both halves of that, so the strategy and the delivery do not drift apart.
How do I choose a digital strategy agency?
Look for a partner that offers independent governance rather than only billable execution, and that is willing to lead delivery when you need it led. Ask for named enterprise references you can verify, and check for compliance credentials such as ENS, GDPR and WCAG that match your regulatory environment. A clear red flag is an agency that stays inside the brief while the wider project drifts, with no one owning the bigger picture. The right partner answers to your business outcome, not just to the task list.
Do you only work with Drupal, or do you handle other platforms?
We choose the right technology for each project. For complex content platforms we usually recommend Drupal, which is our deepest specialism, but we are not a single-platform vendor. We work with Node.js for real-time products, and Next.js and Vue for modern frontends, and we build decoupled and headless architectures when the project calls for them. For example, an editorial platform with tightly integrated workflows may stay on coupled Drupal, while a multi-channel product with a separate frontend team is built headless. Strategy, UX and governance stay platform-agnostic throughout.
When should we choose a decoupled or headless architecture?
Choose headless or decoupled when you need real-time interactivity, multi-channel delivery across web, app and other surfaces, or when a separate frontend team needs to move independently of the content backend. A coupled architecture is usually the better fit when your editorial and publishing workflows are tightly integrated, since it keeps authoring and rendering in one place and reduces moving parts. We make that call against your actual needs, not a default preference, and we document the reasoning so stakeholders can see why.
What does "technical governance as a service" mean?
Technical governance as a service gives you an independent senior technical voice without hiring a full-time CTO. In practice that means architecture oversight, vendor management, escalation ownership when delivery hits a wall, and roadmap stewardship so technical decisions stay aligned with the business. It suits organisations that already have delivery capacity but lack someone at the senior technical-decision layer to make the right calls and hold other vendors and in-house teams to account.
Can you work with our existing in-house team or other vendors?
Yes. We frequently co-lead delivery alongside an in-house team, provide oversight of other vendors, and transfer capability so your people are stronger when we step back. Our role flexes to what you need, from leading the whole programme to acting as the independent technical voice that keeps several parties aligned. The aim is a working relationship that strengthens your team rather than creating a dependency on us.
What compliance and accessibility standards do you cover?
We cover ENS (Spain's Esquema Nacional de Seguridad, required for government and public-sector contracts), GDPR (architecture, data flows and consent management designed for European data law), WCAG 2.1 AA (accessibility built in, audited and documented), and NIS2 (security operations and incident response mapped to the EU directive). Each one is handled as a practical engineering and process requirement, with evidence you can show to an auditor.
How long does a typical engagement last?
Most engagements start with a **strategic discovery of around two weeks** that produces a prioritised findings report and a roadmap. From there, delivery work runs for as long as the programme requires, and ongoing technical governance typically continues on a **retainer model** with quarterly reviews and on-call architecture support. We size and sequence the engagement to your situation rather than to a fixed package.
